It is a 7 year collegiate education that starts after 10th or Madhyama and goes through Shastri and Acharya at Sanskrit Universities, BHU, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan and some Vidyapeeths. All of them follow more or less same syllabus those contain 10 to 25 Classical an Modern Text-Books every level. In these 7 years you exercise with those books those are mostly in Sanskrit. After completing this education successfully, one gets a major part of astrology on his tongue and has ideas how a horoscope gets interpreted. Still he needs to learn and practise the interpretations and teachings of sages.
In recent years some universities have started MA syllabus in Vedic Astrology and that is same recognisable as Jyotish Acharya.

Jyotish Acharya Diploma is given Majorly by Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan and Indian Council of Astrological Sciences however these and some other organizations destribute / sell / award several other titles. Some you can buy even by paying Rs. 500/ and participating in a conference of that type of astrologers. Normally, these are general awareness programs or vacation or hobby courses or just a tiles without any course (however, Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan itself has a college for Astrology Study in Mumbai, called Mumba Devi Sanskrit College. This college is like any other traditional Sanskirt College). In Jyotish Acharya or alike courses, mostly Brihat Parashar Hora with 2-3 other Text-Books is briefed.  A small part of calculation is taught. The tragedic fact is that most of these coursists are far away from Sanskrit knowledge as they have been grown up in different atmosphare and in different kind of education. These are mostly professionals of other subjects than Astrology or Sanskrit, who speak English, learn through English (currupt) translated version of the Text-Books. They learn it as hobby and practise it as profession. On internet, because they are good in English and because Sanskrit scholars are hardly ever in English, you will find a major number of astrologers of this type.

One more poor fact is that in these institutes mostly the teachers too are not well-schooled in astrology. Means they have never been at any collge for this study.
